Job summary

San José Unified is hiring a Student Nutrition team member to prepare and serve nutritious meals in a safe, welcoming environment across multiple sites or the culinary center. You will follow district menus, handle food safely, stock and rotate inventory, assist with reports, and provide friendly service to students, staff, and visitors.

This 0.75 FTE, 10-month position runs 7:30am–2:00pm, 30 hours per week, and requires completion of 10th grade and SB 848 training.

Qualifications

• Requires completion of 10th grade or equivalent.
• Attention to detail and ability to follow procedures.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining safety.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and serve meals per district menus and nutrition guidelines.
• Follow safe food handling, sanitation, and storage procedures.
• Set up and clean food service areas and equipment before, during, and after service.
• Receive, organize, and rotate inventory to maintain freshness and minimize waste.
• Operate ovens, warmers, and dishwashers safely and efficiently.
• Record meal counts and assist with reports to support compliance and documentation.
• Provide friendly customer service to students, staff, and visitors.
• Collaborate with teammates and site staff to ensure meals run smoothly and on schedule.
• Report equipment or safety concerns promptly to a supervisor.
