Job summary

Denver Public Schools is seeking a qualified School Nurse to support student health across district schools on a part-time, hourly basis. The nurse will promote wellness, address health barriers to learning, provide first aid, screenings, and maintain health records using district software.

Candidates must hold a Colorado RN license with a BSN or substantial school nursing experience, CPR certification, and a current CDE Special Service Provider license.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree of Science in Nursing (BSN) is required or three years of licensed RN experience with school-aged children plus enrollment in BSN program.
• Current Colorado Department of Education Special Service Provider License - School Nurse.
• Active RN license issued by the State of Colorado.
• CPR certification must be current and renewable.
• Prior school nursing experience is highly preferred.
• National School Nurse Certification is desirable but not required.

Responsibilities

• Promote an optimal level of wellness to enhance the educational process for students.
• Address health-related barriers to learning and help remove or modify them.
• Provide student care, health care, first aid, immunizations, and assistance to students at assigned schools.
• Perform screenings (scoliosis, vision, hearing, height/weight) and refer or follow up as needed.
• Complete and maintain student health records and reports using district software.
• May supervise health paraprofessionals and other health staff at assigned locations.

About This Job

The School Nurse is an essential role to our schools and will oversee the emotional, mental, physical, and social health of students and maintain a safe and healthy environment. School Nurses are assigned to work across the district in one or multiple school locations depending on the needs of the school. This is a part-time hourly School Nurse opening.

• Must be willing to be assigned to any school across the district - These positions are based on need, anywhere inside DPS district region.

What You'll Do

• Provide well student care, health care, first aid, immunizations and assistance to students at assigned school.
• Perform screenings for scoliosis, vision, hearing, height and weight, and/or other conditions and make referrals and follow-up.
• Complete, update, and maintain student records (accident reports, health records) using District software systems, and complete and submit reports.
• May supervise health paraprofessionals and other health staff in assigned locations.

What You'll Need

• Have a Bachelor's Degree of Science in Nursing (If you do NOT have a BSN, you must have three (3) or more years of licensed, practical experience as an RN with school-aged children in order for the district to sign off on a temporary license AND at the time of hire, you must be able to show proof of enrollment in a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing program and agree to finish the program during the next three years, during your probationary period with CDE. This also includes any agency nurses hired.)
• Current Colorado Department of Education Special Service Provider License - School Nurse.
• Be licensed as a registered nurse by the State of Colorado.
• Possess a current certificate for Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), and be able to renew it as required.
• Have previous school nursing experience, highly preferred.
• Have a National School Nurse Certification, which is highly desired but not required.

• Live and work with a permanent home address in Colorado while working with us.
• Have the ability with or without accommodations to meet the physical demands of the position.
