Job summary

Arp Independent School District in Arp, TX seeks a School Nurse Assistant to support the district nurse and campus principal in health services. The role includes maintaining clinic records, providing minor first aid, and conducting health screenings.

Responsibilities

  • Administers medications to students under the direction of a credentialed School Nurse.
  • Demonstrates SKILLS to administer first aid/CPR; handling body fluids and waste materials; operate standard office equipment including pertinent software applications; prepare and maintain accurate records; respond appropriately to medical emergencies; prepare clear, concise and accurate reports, correspondence, and other written materials; operate a computer using word processing and other business software and standard office equipment.
  • Maintains KNOWLEDGE of emergency first aid/CPR procedures; safety practices and procedures; health standards and reporting procedures; local communicable diseases and their precautions, treatments and side effects; public health agencies and local health care resources available to district students and staff.
  • Assists with vision and hearing screening.
  • Cleans work areas (e.g. sinks, counters, cots, etc.).
  • Communicates with students, teachers, counselors, parents, etc. and responds to questions related to students health under the direction of a credentialed School Nurse.
  • Maintains student health records (e.g. prescription dispensing log, accident reports, claim forms, etc.) under the direction of a credentialed School Nurse.
  • Complies with policies established by federal and state laws, Texas Department of Health rule, State Board of Education rule, and board policy. Complies with all district and campus routines and regulations.

REPORTS TO: Licensed District Registered Nurse and Campus Principal

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Be a high school graduate or hold a GED certificate

2. Any combination of experience and training which would indicate possession of the knowledge, skills.

An example of an acceptable combination is:

Graduation from High School and one year of related work experience in a health office.

LVN or Paramedic trained is preferred

PRIMARY PURPOSE: Work under the immediate guidance and direction of a licensed registered nurse to maintain routine clinic records, provide minor first aid care, and conduct health screenings.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Noncontractual (At-will), Clerical/Technical, 170 days, estimated 8 hours daily, Wage/Hour status: Nonexempt

Tools/Equipment Used: Standard medical clinic equipment; special needs adaptive equipment; standard office equipment including computer and peripherals

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

Posture: Frequent standing, sitting, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing pulling, and twisting

Motion: Frequent walking, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension

Lifting: Frequent light lifting and carrying (under 15 pounds); may require regular heavy lifting (45 pounds or more) and position of students with physical disabilities; controlling behavior through physical restraint, assisting nonambulatory students

Environment: Exposure to biological hazards, bacteria, and communicable diseases

Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress
