Job summary

Bland County Public Schools is seeking a dedicated School Nurse to promote student health, safety, attendance, and academic success at Bland County High School. The nurse will provide routine, urgent, and emergency care, develop and implement health care plans, manage medications, and coordinate with families and healthcare partners to support student well-being.

Requirements include an active Virginia RN license, CPR/first-aid/AED certification, and strong communication and confidentiality

Qualifications

• Current, unrestricted RN license (Virginia).
• Graduation from an accredited nursing program.
• CPR, first-aid, and AED certification (or ability to obtain before employment).
• Ability to remain calm and effective during medical emergencies.
• Strong communication, organization, documentation, and confidentiality skills.
• Successful completion of required background checks and screenings.

Responsibilities

• Provide routine, urgent, and emergency nursing care to students and staff.
• Assess student illnesses, injuries, and medical concerns.
• Administer medications and physician-authorized treatments.
• Develop and implement Individualized Health Care Plans and Emergency Action Plans.
• Care for students with diabetes, asthma, allergies, seizures, and other conditions.
• Maintain accurate, confidential student health records.
• Review immunization records and health documentation.
• Coordinate health services with parents, staff, providers, and community agencies.
• Provide health-related training to school personnel.
• Assist with health screenings, disease prevention, and emergency preparedness.
• Perform other health duties as assigned.

SCHOOL NURSE

Bland County Public Schools is accepting applications for a full-time School Nurse. The School Nurse will provide professional nursing services that promote student health, safety, attendance, and academic success.

Position Responsibilities:

• Provide routine, urgent, and emergency nursing care to students and staff.
• Assess student illnesses, injuries, and medical concerns.
• Administer medications and physician-authorized treatments.
• Develop and implement Individualized Health Care Plans and Emergency Action Plans.
• Provide care for students with diabetes, asthma, severe allergies, seizure disorders, and other medical conditions.
• Maintain accurate and confidential student health records.
• Review immunization records, physical examinations, and other required health documentation.
• Coordinate student health services with parents, school employees, health care providers, and community agencies.
• Provide health-related training and guidance to school personnel.
• Assist with health screenings, communicable disease prevention, and emergency preparedness.
• Perform other school health duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

• Current, unrestricted license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
• Graduation from an accredited nursing program.
• Current CPR, first-aid, and AED certification, or the ability to obtain required certification before employment.
• Ability to respond calmly and effectively during medical emergencies.
• Strong communication, organization, documentation, and confidentiality skills.
• Successful completion of all required background checks and employment screenings.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Previous school nursing, pediatric, public health, community health, or emergency nursing experience.
• Experience working with children who have chronic or complex medical needs.

Position: Full-Time
Contract: 10-Month/185 Days
Salary: Based on the Bland County Public Schools approved salary scale and the successful applicant’s qualifications and experience
Benefits: Eligible for benefits in accordance with School Board policy
