General Summary:

The School Registered Nurse serves as the school nurse in assigned building/s for seven hours per day. Responsible for reviewing the documentation of all health concerns, prepares Individualized Health Plans, serves as a resource to School administration. Performs high-level nursing duties for students with special health care needs including, but not limited to, diabetes, asthma, seizure disorders, and allergies. Provides staff education for illnesses and conditions of students in the building/s as well as Medication Administration with the School System backup staff. Provides in cooperation with school system staff mandated reporting of abuse/neglect. Assists in the provision of communicable disease management

Education, Licensure, Registration and Experience:

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.

Demonstrated proficiency in acute care nursing, knowledge, and skills.

BLS certification.

Current state license in the state of Ohio.

ACLS preferred

Essential Functions:

Assesses and diagnoses patient and family needs to provide quality care to assigned patients.

Develops, discusses, and communicates a realistic plan of care for each patient, in collaboration with each patient/support person in order to address all identified needs.

Demonstrates the skills and judgment necessary to implement medical plan of care, nursing interventions, and procedures as necessary for the care of the patient.

Evaluates the identified problems, care provided, and patient's responses are reassessed to meet patient and family needs and assure overall quality of care delivered.

Maintains up to date and accurate documentation of nursing care provided to ensure the integration of information for use by the healthcare team, to ensure quality care.

Maintains current knowledge/certification/licensure. Pursues professional growth and development.

Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible and courteous environment.

Attends all required safety training programs and can describe his/her responsibilities related to general safety, department/service safety, and specific job related hazards.

Performs all responsibilities/duties required by the units as defined in the scope of service, to ensure that the unique nature of the client is addressed. This includes but not limited to the age of the clinets served.

Follows the hospital exposure control plans/bloodborne and airborne pathogens.

Promotes effective working relations and works effectively as part of a department/unit team inter and intra departmentally to facilitate the department's/unit's ability to meet its goals and objectives.

Functions as a role model and provides support and development for current and new staff.

Assumes all other duties and responsibilities as necessary.

Directs other licensed and non licensed personnel in the provision of care to patient as assigned.

Standards of Employment:

Attends all mandatory education programs and can describe his or her responsibilities related to general safety and regulatory compliance.

Appearance is professional, neat, clean, and appropriate for the work environment. Wears proper photoidentification badge while on duty.

Maintains confidentiality of all hospital and patient information at all times, as observed by peers and management.

Attends monthly staff meetings and participates in monthly rounding process with manager to assure effective and timely two-way communications.

Participates in and completes required department specific education and training programs and can describe his or her responsibilities related to department safety and specific job-related hazards.

Follows safety and security policies including exposure control plans/blood borne and airborne pathogens.
