Job summary

Newport News Public Schools is seeking a Food Service Worker to assist with preparation and serving of meals, maintain sanitation, and support daily kitchen operations under the supervision of the cafeteria manager. The role emphasizes accuracy, timeliness, and friendly service to students.

Key duties include following recipes and safety procedures, operating dishwashing equipment, counting money and making change, and keeping work areas clean.

Qualifications

• Ability to read and write in English.
• Food Handlers card or ability to obtain one.
• Follows NNPS dress code and safety policies.
• Desire to perform best effort in all assigned duties.
• Ability to follow safety precautions to avoid injuries.

Responsibilities

• Follows procedures in food preparation, use and care of equipment, and sanitation standards as required by health offices.
• Follows safety standards in preparing, storing and serving food.
• Serves customers promptly and courteously, maintaining proper portion sizes and food temperature.
• Counts money, makes change, and balances drawer at end of day.
• Operates the dish-room, rinses trays and utensils, and cleans dish machine and area.
• Cleans assigned work area including sweeping, mopping, walls, ovens, tables, and utensils.
• Maintains required forms and records as assigned by the manager.
• Attends job-related training classes and workshops.
• Models nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.
