School Lunch Cook

Salary: $19.25–$20.25 per hour

Location: Various School Locations

Responsibilities

This is routing work involving the responsibility for the efficient, economic, and palatable preparation and cooking of a variety of foods. Incumbents work under the direct supervision of a Cook Manager and may supervise Food Service Helpers.

Typical Work Activities

• Prepares and cooks a variety of foods;
• Uses approved scientific methods of preparation and quantity recipes;
• Cooks meats and vegetables;
• Prepares soups and broths;
• Makes salads, sandwiches, desserts, and a variety of other foods;
• When directed to do so, plans menus, requisitions food and performs other managerial duties;
• May on occasion work at steam table;
• Assists in the serving of meals;
• May assist in cleaning activities;
• May assist the Cook Manager in maintaining simple records of food and supplies that are received and used;
• Performs related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

• (A) Graduation from High School, GED or Equivalency Diploma and one year of full-time experience in quantity food preparation;
• (B) An equivalent combination of education and experience.

NOTE: Verifiable part-time experience will be pro-rated to meet full-time experience requirements. Proof of education must be presented at time of appointment.
