Job summary

Kalamazoo Public Schools is hiring a School Library Assistant for Hillside Middle School. The role supports clerical library duties, circulates books, assists staff and students, and helps maintain a positive learning environment.

Responsibilities include using the library system, generating reports, overseeing volunteers, and performing other duties as assigned. A high school diploma and basic computer skills are required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Accredited Equivalency.
• Keyboarding and computer proficiency demonstrated by skills testing.
• Computer skills to assist students, staff, and parents.
• Knowledge of the Dewey Decimal system.
• Ability to adapt to changing technology.
• Strong interpersonal skills with students, staff and parents.
• Keyboarding and computer proficiency.
• Ability to organize and prioritize clerical work in the library.
• Effective communication.
• Ability to work independently in the library, following procedures.
• Desirable attendance record.

Responsibilities

• Use the KPS library automation system to circulate books and manage records.
• Circulate books and maintain student records.
• Generate reports and overdue notices.
• Receive and maintain records of payments for lost books.
• Receive new materials and prepare them for circulation and shelving.
• Shelve returned books and maintain inventory of materials.
• Train and oversee parent volunteers and student workers.
• Assist staff and students in locating materials.
• Maintain an attractive learning environment and a positive learning climate.
• Adhere to district Library Services Office procedures.
• Perform all other duties as assigned.
