The Yay Company is hiring a Cook in Philadelphia to lead hands‑on food preparation and daily kitchen operations. You’ll cook on the line and in prep, ensuring every student meal meets the standard and is on time.

You’ll manage batch production, FEFO inventory, and weekly counts, while guiding team members and maintaining safety logs. This role emphasizes reliability and attention to detail in a high‑volume setting.

Qualifications

• Current Food Handler certification is required
• Experience in a high-volume kitchen such as school food service or catering
• Strong knife skills and comfort with hot line and cold prep
• Detail-oriented: follow recipes, label correctly, avoid shortcuts
• Reliable, on time, and ready to work hard from the moment you walk in

Responsibilities

• Operate hot food production from recipe cards, ensure portions and temps, maintain schedule
• Handle cold batch production with batch planning, labeling, and FEFO compliance
• Manage kitchen par levels and weekly inventory counts; verify deliveries and handle waste logging
• Develop and brief team members at shift start; provide clear direction and feedback
• Represent the kitchen to students and staff, gathering feedback and ensuring great meals
