Job summary

La Mesa-Spring Valley School District is seeking a Health Technician to monitor student health, document health information, and provide care or referrals under a School Nurse. This substitute role has variable hours and is not benefits-eligible.

Responsibilities include administering first aid, coordinating health records, communicating with parents and agencies, and maintaining health-related materials and compliance with policies.

Qualifications

• High school graduation or equivalent and one year of clerical experience involving public contact and record keeping responsibilities; basic clerical and computational skills.
• CPR/First Aid Certification required.
• Knowledge of basic math, safety practices and procedures; grammar and punctuation.

Responsibilities

• Administers first aid, medication and specialized medical treatment under the direction of the School Nurse to students with health conditions and/or injuries; provides specialized medical treatments and/or testing at school site.
• Communicates with parents, students, and/or other agencies for the purpose of promoting needed treatment, securing information and complying with legal requirements.
• Coordinates student absence activities at assigned school location for the purpose of documenting student absences in a timely manner and providing an accurate audit trail.
• Distributes and maintains written materials of confidential and non-confidential nature for documenting activities and conveying information.
• Distributes information on medical treatments for instructing teachers, students and/or parents on health related subjects.
• Maintains records and files for up-to-date information and historical reference.
• Maintains attendance related documents and reports for conveying information and audit trail.
• Maintains student cumulative folders for accurate data access.
• Monitors students referred for illness to ensure safety and welfare.
• Prepares and maintains medical documents for documenting activities and conveying information.
• Reports incidents for maintaining student safety and adherence to policies.
• Requisitions and maintains health office supplies to ensure availability.
• Responds to emergencies to determine and implement actions for health and safety.
