Job summary

Great Hearts Academies is seeking a Facilities Technician for its Western Hills campuses in Texas. The role installs, repairs, maintains, and upgrades facility systems, responds to building issues, and coordinates with vendors and contractors on-site.

You will perform preventative maintenance, assist with small construction projects, and support security and moves across facilities. Strong teamwork, safety awareness, and physical fitness are essential.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Comfort with MS Office and smartphone use.
  • Good written and oral communication in English.

Responsibilities

  • Act as primary contact for building issues (climate control, odors, spills, emergencies).
  • Monitor contractor performance to ensure work meets specifications.
  • Perform routine preventative maintenance on diverse equipment.
  • Assist with small construction and repair projects as needed.
  • Support building security and respond to emergencies on-site.
  • Coordinate moves and assist with budget-related tasks.

Position Title: Facilities TechnicianLocation: Great Hearts Western Hills Lower and Upper Schools (shared)FLSA Status: Non-Exempt, HourlyCompensation Type: HourlyDistinctive benefits for Great Hearts facultyExceptional Benefits (medical, dental, vision etc.) with minimal employee costTexas Teacher Retirement SystemUniquely valuable professional development offerings, from great books seminars with academy colleagues, to leadership and special education coursework/pathways, to reduced tuition graduate degree support with select partner universitiesFacilities TechnicianThe Facilities Technician is responsible for installing, repairing, maintaining and upgrading facility systems and equipment; identifying repair and/or replacement needs; assisting other skilled trades; providing necessary information on the proper uses of the equipment; ensuring adequate materials are available to complete assignments in a timely manner, and directing assigned workers.Duties & ResponsibilitiesAct as the primary contact for school personnel for any building issues (climate control, odors, smoke, spills, damage, emergencies, and repairs)Monitor/assist contractor and outside vendor performance to ensure work is completed according to specificationsIndependently perform routine scheduled preventative maintenance on a variety of equipmentMay act as the project coordinator for small construction and repair projectsAssist with maintaining building security and immediately respond to building emergencies on an as-needed basisMonitor, replace and obtain light bulbs in all assigned facilitiesPerform basic electrical work and determine when an electrician is requiredHang pictures, whiteboards and dismantle/install furniture as neededCoordinate and assist with departmental and employee movesTransport goods or equipment as assignedPerform routine quality control inspections of janitorial and landscaping subcontractors to ensure the property is maintained properlyAssist the Operations Manager in preparing the annual maintenance budgetSolicit bids and quotes from vendorsPerform other duties and responsibilities as assignedRequired QualificationsHigh School diploma or GEDAbility to lift 75 pounds, work in tight or confined spaces, work with lifts and ladders, and perform rooftop workAbility to perform work in varying environments; may be required to work outdoors 95% of the time and exposed to the elements and inclement weatherMust have or be willing to obtain and maintain all necessary tools to perform daily tasksAbility to work a flexible schedule and travel locallyDesired QualificationsTechnical degree preferredExperience in general construction along with a mechanical aptitudeGood written and oral communication skills in EnglishAbility to work well with others in a team environmentFortitude to complete all tasks independently, properly, and on timeAbility to thrive in academic entrepreneurial culture and interact with all levels of management, staff, students and their families.Possess adequate computer skills utilizing MS Office Suite applications and the ability to use all functions of a smartphoneUS work authorization is requiredEmployment is contingent upon successful completion of a criminal history background check and fingerprint clearance in accordance with state requirements.Travel required: May need to travel locally for training and professional development opportunities.This description reflects management’s assignment of essential functions.
