Job summary

Kenedy Independent School District is seeking a Custodian to clean and maintain district facilities, ensuring safety and efficiency in building operations and grounds. The role involves following a cleaning schedule and performing routine maintenance to support a healthy campus environment.

The successful candidate will read and understand safety procedures, operate cleaning equipment, and assist with event setup and minor repairs as needed.

Qualifications

• Ability to read and understand instructions for cleaning, maintenance, and safety procedures.
• Knowledge of minor repair techniques and building and grounds maintenance.
• Ability to operate cleaning equipment and lift heavy equipment.
• Ability to properly handle cleaning supplies.

Responsibilities

• Cleaning floors, chalkboards, wastebaskets, windows, furniture, equipment, and restrooms.
• Keep school building and grounds neat and clean (sidewalks, driveways, parking lots, play areas).
• Comply with local laws and procedures for storage and disposal of trash.
• Assist in maintaining an inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment and request additional supplies as needed.
• Assist with lunchroom setup, including arranging tables and chairs.
• Perform preventive maintenance to ensure comfort, health, and safety of students and staff; report major repairs to principal.
• Regulate HVAC to provide appropriate temperatures and economical energy use.
• Move furniture or equipment within building as directed by principal.
• Assist in setting up facilities for special events.
• Assist with opening/closing building each school day, check exits and panic bolts, follow safety procedures.
• Inspect machines/equipment for safety and efficiency.
• Follow safety procedures for lifting and operating tools/equipment.
• Correct unsafe conditions and report non-immediate issues to supervisor.
