Job summary

Polk County Schools is seeking a substitute custodian in Lakeland, FL. The role involves cleaning, sanitizing, and maintaining school facilities to ensure a safe learning environment. You will operate standard cleaning equipment, follow safety procedures, and support daily activities across classrooms, hallways, and common areas.

The position requires basic education and the ability to perform physical tasks, with flexible substitute hours and potential for growth within the facilities team.

Qualifications

• Completion of eighth grade, providing proof, or equivalent experience.
• Knowledge of custodial methods and equipment.
• Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
• Ability to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds.
• Willingness to perform cleaning tasks and operate cleaning equipment.
• Flexibility for substitute hours may be required.

Responsibilities

• Empties trash, cleans chalk trays and boards, dusts surfaces and fixtures.
• Cleans and sanitizes restrooms, dining areas and common spaces.
• Operates cleaning equipment (mop, buffer, vacuum, etc.) and handles cleaning agents safely.
• Assists with event setup and general facility maintenance as needed.
• Supports lunchroom and warehouse staff with heavy lifting.
