Job summary

Hawaiʻi State Department of Education is seeking School Custodian II positions at the Honolulu location. This civil service role involves cleaning, maintenance, and basic repairs across classrooms, hallways, restrooms, and facilities, at a BC-02 pay grade.

The duties include sweeping, mopping, dusting, operating cleaning equipment, replacing bulbs and fixtures, and assisting with grounds tasks. Applicants with no experience can apply; full-time 40-hour weeks and state benefits apply.

Qualifications

• No experience required; training or work experiences in janitorial, grounds maintenance, or general labor accepted.
• Full-time, 40-hour workweeks; part-time hours prorated.
• Temporary Assignment (TA) experience may be required and must be verified per options listed.

Responsibilities

• Sweep and mop floors in classrooms, hallways, and stairs.
• Wipe, dust, and polish furniture and metal work.
• Clean woodwork, walls, blinds, fixtures and windows.
• Disinfect and service restrooms and water fountains.
• Move and transport heavy objects and load/unload supplies.
• Replace bulbs and fixtures; perform simple repairs to doors, windows, and other facilities.
• Operate heavy-duty cleaning equipment (vacuum cleaners, scrubbers, floor polishers).
• Remove spots on carpets and engage in carpet cleaning as needed.
• May assist with grounds tasks and inventory of supplies.
