Job summary

Wayne County Public Schools in Meadow Lane Elementary is seeking a Custodian/Bus Driver to perform cleaning and minor maintenance, and to serve as a Bus Driver when required by the principal.

Requirements include a high school diploma or GED and full compliance with State Board of Education bus driver qualifications. This full-time role reports to the Principal or Department Administrator and emphasizes maintaining a safe, clean learning environment.

Qualifications

• Minimum high school diploma or GED required.
• Demonstrate knowledge of cleaning methods and maintenance tasks.
• Ability to learn proper use of school building equipment.
• Follow written and oral directions accurately.
• Ability to establish positive working relationships with students, staff and public.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and push/pull 75 pounds.
• Daily standing/walking for extended periods.
• Effective verbal and written communication.

Responsibilities

• Follow school rules and regulations for facilities operations.
• Scrub, mop, vacuum, wax floors; wash windows and surfaces.
• Clean restrooms; replenish supplies as needed.
• Empty trash and keep areas free of hazards.
• Lock/unlock buildings and secure premises at night.
• Move equipment or furniture as directed; perform minor repairs.
• Identify damages and report needs for outside attention.
• Change light bulbs and maintain on-site supplies.
• Maintain cleanliness and basic operation of HVAC components.
