Job Summary
This is moderately heavy manual custodial work in performing routine general cleaning and housekeeping of buildings, facilities, furniture, and equipment including routine care and maintenance of grounds. Primary responsibility is learning the use of proper methods and materials in cleaning and in the operation of machinery used in such work. Assignments may be to either the day or night shift at a school building or custodial pool. May be assigned temporarily to other facilities as necessary. Work requires gaining knowledge of and the demonstrating the ability to apply the techniques, methods and procedures used in custodial work and School Board policies and procedures applicable to the custodial section. The work is performed under general supervision, and instructions are specific in nature and work is subject to close inspection during progress and upon completion. Where employees work under close supervision and follow a well-established routine. This class lies below the class of School Custodial Technician I.

1. Learn to perform custodial duties such as striping, scrubbing, mopping, sweeping, waxing, and polishing hard floor surfaces; cleaning carpeted surfaces; dusting and polishing furniture or fixtures; sanitizing toilets, washrooms, and fixtures; and washing windows, woodwork and blinds.

2. Empties waste baskets and other waste receptacles; collects and disposes of trash in outside receptacles provided

3. Learn to operate and perform routine maintenance of powered cleaning equipment such as floor scrubbing, buffing, polishing and carpet cleaning machines in accordance with established procedures and/or manufacturer’s operating manual

4. Learn general cleaning and maintenance of grounds and exterior walkways to include the use of power blowers and pressure washers

5. Learn routine biomedical cleaning to include (but not limited to) surface sanitation against communicable diseases, minor to moderate blood and body fluid spills, cleaning required following pest infestation, cleanup of sanitary sewer spills, etc.

7. Assists in setting up bleachers, chairs, tables, or other materials/equipment needed for special school events/meetings

8. Reviews and know their role in the school’s lockdown and emergency protocols and procedures

10. May also learn to perform miscellaneous duties (i.e., touch up painting, delivering equipment to teachers or staff, setting up and arranging furniture or special equipment, picking up paper or debris and assisting with basic pest control tasks as needed)
