Job summary

Chesterfield Township Police Department is seeking a part-time, non-uniformed Crossing Guard to assist elementary students crossing roads around school zones. The role reports to the Administrative Sergeant / Shift Supervisor and follows a school-year schedule.

Essential duties include standing at crosswalks with a STOP sign, positioning prior to school start, and coordinating with available signals. No policing powers are required; contact the Dispatcher if violations occur.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.

Responsibilities

• The Crossing Guard shall walk to the middle of the street and hold up the hand held STOP sign until all children are safely across the street. S/he must work with a traffic signal or crosswalk, if one is available at the assigned location.
• The Crossing Guard shall be on post one half hour (30 minutes) prior to the tardy bell of the school and remain on duty until five minutes after the classes start. This shall be 3 times daily on each school day for the arrival, lunch and departure of students.
• The Crossing Guard shall have no police powers to stop, detain, arrest, cite or question subjects that they encounter during their duty hours. If the Crossing Guard witnesses a violation then they are to contact the Chesterfield Township Police Department and provide the information to the Dispatcher.
