Qualifications: Valid Georgia certificate in School Counseling (P-12) or equivalent alternatives. Access to a personal computer and reliable internet.

Duties
  • Direct the development of the comprehensive Student Services Plan based on current individual site needs. Communicate goals of the Student Services Plan to all staff at the Coastal Plains site.
  • Coordinate and meet monthly with all Student Services personnel to ensure all staff attend and understand student services activities.
  • Conduct and participate in annual audits to review program implementation. Measure results of Student Services activities and communicate results.
  • Communicate appropriate data to the person responsible for the Coastal Plains monthly Wellness Report.
  • Implement the Bridge Legislation by having students enroll in Coastal Plains "Tools For College" course and grant appropriate credit.
  • Create and review individual Life Action Plans (LAP) on a regular basis to help students plan for graduation and career/college. Get parent approval for plans.
  • Collaborate with parents/guardians/educators to assist students with educational and career planning.
  • Plan events for students to encourage them to graduate, to visit colleges, and schedule parent nights and solicit community involvement.
  • Plan group activities to meet student needs and goals of the Student Services plan.
  • Assist all students, individually or in groups, with developing academic, career and personal/social skills, goals, and plans.
  • Provide individual or group counseling to students with identified concerns and needs. Collaborate with social worker on planning for group counseling.
  • Monitor student academic performance, behavior, and attendance and assist with appropriate interventions.
  • Conduct an initial evaluation of new student’s transcript using a Transcript Evaluation Form and recording all credit. (Total credits on transcript should always match the total credits on the Coastal Plains Transcript Evaluation Form). The completed form is delivered to the registrar to be entered into the student database.
  • Conduct a Financial Aid Workshop each school year for all seniors according to the Student Services Plan.
  • Schedule the ASVAB test and conduct an interpretation of results with students.
  • Participate in professional development activities to improve knowledge and skills.
  • Use available technology resources to enhance the school-counseling program. Stay up-to-date on all GACollege411 training as well as File MakerPro training.
  • Counsel students on the importance of going to college by planning programs to promote college attendance as well as preparation for the SAT, ACT, PSAT, ASSEST, or Compass. Administer college entrance exams or arrange for exams to be given when appropriate.
  • Coordinate all required state testing with the Test Coordinator to plan testing review, testing sessions, and notification of results to students and staff.
  • Mentor students.
  • Plan a College Fair Night with the Graduation Coach and Career Specialist.
  • Conduct a Georgia Apply to College night with the Graduation Coach and Career Specialist.
  • Plan college field trips with the Graduation Coach and Career Specialist.
  • Serve as the site-based Homeless Liaison.
  • Conduct SST meetings and maintain all required documentation.
  • Conduct 504 meetings and write 504 Plans. Maintain all documentation related to 504 students. Keep student accommodations up to date in the site Accommodations Spreadsheet.
  • Ensure that medical emergency/response plans are in place and current for students with conditions that can require monitoring and/or emergency interventions such as epilepsy and diabetes.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Site Director.
