Job summary

Cheshire Public Schools is seeking a School Counselor at Cheshire High School to join a dynamic counseling team. The role emphasizes collaboration with counselors, staff, and administrators to drive career development and college readiness for students in grades 9–12.

The counselor will design and implement a developmentally appropriate guidance curriculum, provide academic counseling, assist with registration and orientation, and support students through testing and college planning activities.

Qualifications

  • Connecticut Teaching Certificate #068.
  • Experience in high school guidance counseling and college readiness programs.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with all school counselors, staff and administrators to implement career development and college readiness activities for grades 9–12.
  • Coordinate and oversee opportunities from in-person or virtual Job Shadow Day experiences and organize College Fairs.
  • Support students in meeting graduation requirements and participate in Mastery-based Performance Assessments.
  • Develop and deliver developmental guidance curricula for high school students.
  • Provide academic counseling to individuals and groups and assist with student registration and orientation.
  • Assist in administering standardized testing and identify students needing academic support.
  • Contribute to SRBI processes to support students with academic and behavioral needs.
  • Support special education, 504 students and participate in PPTs for program modifications.

Description

An exciting opportunity for an individual with excellent interpersonal skills, high energy level, creativity and the ability to work with high school students. The candidate will display team work, commitment, and a desire to be a part of a dynamic school counseling team. The duties include but are not limited to:

  • Working with all school counselors, staff, and administrators in implementing career development and college readiness activities with students in grades 9-12;
  • Coordinating and overseeing opportunities from in-person or virtual Job Shadow Day experiences to organizing and attending the high school College Fair/Post-Secondary Fair;
  • Ensuring students are meeting all graduation requirements, and coordinate the Mastery-based Performance Assessment experience for students;
  • Creating and implementing developmental guidance curriculum for high school students;
  • Providing academic counseling on an individual and group basis;
  • Registering and orienting students;
  • Assisting in the administration of standardized testing;
  • Identifying and assisting students with academic concerns;
  • Contributing to the SRBI process in supporting students with academic and behavioral needs;
  • Providing support and understanding of the needs of special education students, 504 students, and participating in PPTs to develop student program modifications.
Qualifications

In accordance with the Agreement Between Cheshire Board of Education and the Education Association of Cheshire.
