Job summary

Charles County Public Schools seeks a certified School Counselor to join the MS/HS program on an 11-month basis. A Master’s degree in School Counseling and eligibility for Maryland licensure are required, with at least 600 hours of practicum or school counseling experience.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement an outcome-based counseling program aligned with the ASCA model.
• Deliver a school guidance curriculum addressing academic achievement, personal-social skills, and career development.
• Provide individual and small group counseling with students and parents to development educational and career plans.
• Offer responsive services to meet the needs and concerns of individual students and to provide support during crisis situations.
• Act as a consultant to educational staff and parents in creating plans to meet student needs.
• Provide professional development on issues related to student success and effective parenting.
• Develop a referral service utilizing system-wide and community resources.
• Collaborate with school and system staff to develop prevention-based and responsive programming and services.
• Support planning and implementation of school-based and system-wide initiatives.
• Serve as an active member of the SST and participate in IEP and 504 meetings as needed.
• Use data to evaluate counseling program effectiveness and guide future direction.
• Use data to assess student success and identify areas needing attention.
• Maintain an organized system for monitoring student progress and communicating with students and parents.
• Maintain communications and act as a liaison with parents, groups, and community organizations.
• Take a leadership role in providing an inviting environment for all students to be successful.
• Keep administration informed of issues impacting student achievement.

ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The environmental factors and/or physical requirements of this position include the following: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to have ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations; and the ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights of 10-50 pounds. Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard. The employee frequently is required to sit, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear.
