Responsibilities

• Provide individual and group counseling focused on social-emotional development and executive function.
• Assist students in setting academic, personal, college and career goals.

• Develop and monitor social-emotional and behavioral interventions aligned with IEP goals.
• Prepare progress reports documenting growth and achievement of IEP goals.
• Attend IEP and 504 meetings for eligible students in caseload.
• Collaborate with special education staff, general education teachers, and admins to support student needs.
• Coordinate crisis intervention services and SOS prevention program as needed.
• Maintain professional conduct and collaborate with counseling team to share timely information.

Job Description

Advanced Math and Science Academy, a college preparatory charter school, is seeking to hire committed, skilled, and inspiring educators. AMSA is committed to preparing all students to succeed in college and beyond. Located in Marlborough, MA, AMSA includes 6th through 12th grade classes.

The Advanced Math & Science Academy Charter School is currently accepting applications for a full-time, School Counselor to start as soon as possible.

• Create inspiring, challenging, and effective teaching and learning experiences for all our students.
• Be committed to serving all students, including English Language Learners and Students with Disabilities, in the context of the regular education classroom using a variety of inclusion models.
• Contribute to a strong and supportive professional learning community.

Job Responsibilities

• Provide individual and group counseling services focused on social-emotional development, coping skills, executive function and emotional regulation to students with social-emotional goals identified in their IEPs/504s as well as other identified students.
• Help students to set academic, personal, college and career goals.
• Provide responsive services as needed to address academic, social and emotional concerns.
• Develop, implement, and monitor social-emotional and behavioral interventions aligned with student IEP goals and objectives.
• Prepare and submit timely and accurate progress reports documenting student growth and achievement of IEP goals.
• Attend IEP and 504 meetings for eligible students in caseload.
• Collaborate with special education staff, general education teachers, community service providers, and administrators to support student needs.
• Conduct risk assessments and provide crisis intervention services as needed.
• Coordinate and facilitate the Signs of Suicide (SOS) Prevention Program which includes screening coordination and follow-up support for identified students.
• React professionally and objectively to unpredictable situations (e.g., environmental changes, behavior/aggression, mental health crisis, etc.).
• Collaborate with the school counseling team to deliver timely information via email and school website.
• Work collaboratively with other staff to implement curriculum and build school culture across the school.
• Work with administration to uphold and support all school policies and procedures.
• Assist in special projects as assigned by the Director of School Counseling.
• Other responsibilities as assigned in helping to maintain a safe and orderly school environment, (i.e. traffic and/or lunch duties)

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Counseling/School Counseling and a valid Massachusetts School Counseling License for grades 5–12 are required. The successful candidate must also be willing to obtain a Massachusetts School Adjustment Counselor License within one -year of employment.
• Ability to collaborate, work well under pressure, and maintain a sense of humor and humility.
• Familiarity with Google Docs and PowerSchool preferred.
• Strong counseling skills and ability to build relationships with a variety of stakeholders.
• Minimum 1-2 years’ experience is strongly preferred.
• Strong commitment to Advanced Math and Science Academy’s mission, values, and educational model.
• Current authorization to work in the United States. Candidates must have such authorization by their first day of employment.
