Young World Physical Education in Clyde, North Carolina, is hiring a School Counselor to support students in personal, educational, and vocational development.
The Counselor will lead the school-counseling program, provide individual and group counseling, and consult with various stakeholders. A Bachelor's in a related field and a Master's in counseling are required, along with state licensure.

JOB DESCRIPTION OF THE SCHOOL COUNSELOR
REPORTS TO: Principal
PURPOSE: To help all students develop skills in the areas of personal-social growth, educational planning, and career and vocational development.
Bachelor’s degree in a related field with a Master’s degree in counseling or any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Must be licensed by the State of North Carolina Department of Public Instruction in counseling or able to obtain licensure in this area.
Physical Requirements: Must be physically able to operate a variety of equipment including computers, typewriters, copiers, calculators, etc. Must be able to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Light work usually requires walking or standing for a significant degree.
Data Conception: Ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable, functional, structural or composite characteristics of data, people or things.
Interpersonal Communication: Ability to speak and/or signal people to convey or exchange information, and to receive instructions, assignments or directions.
Language Ability: Ability to read a variety of correspondence, reports, forms, press releases, etc., and prepare correspondence, reports, forms, etc., using prescribed formats and conforming to all rules of punctuation, grammar, diction, and style. Ability to speak before groups of people with poise, voice control and confidence.
Interpersonal Temperament: Ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions; adaptability to performing under stress and in emergency situations.
Physical Communication: Ability to talk and hear. Must be able to communicate via telephone.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: General knowledge of ethical guidelines applicable to the position, federal, state, and local laws, and regulations. Knowledge of principles of organization and administration. Knowledge of the North Carolina Standard Course of Study. Skill in counseling and motivating students. Ability to plan, coordinate, and evaluate the effectiveness of student programs. Ability to coordinate the efforts of support services personnel and outside agencies. Ability to use common office machines and popular computer-driven word processing, spreadsheet, and file maintenance programs. Ability to maintain complete and accurate records and statistics and develop meaningful reports. Ability to express ideas orally and in writing, and to establish effective working relationships as necessary.
