Your Role as a Counselor
- Assist students in realistic self-appraisal.
- Encourages the choice and successful completion of a scholastic program that is consistent with each students abilities and that will lead to the widest possible choice of post-high school opportunities.
- Assist students in adjusting to the scholastic, social and personal demands of school.
- Assists students in developing realistic vocational aims.
- Aids teachers by providing those guidance services that make their efforts more effective.
- Assists in evaluating the overall educational program and recommends changes and additions to the school curriculum.
- Informs parents of their students progress, limitations, and abilities as evidenced in their school experiences.
- Aids parents in the post-high school planning of their students.
- Helps parents understand their children and their needs.
- Oversees the administration of the school-wide testing program.
- Performs other duties as assigned or as necessary for the proper operation of the guidance and counseling program.

- A sense of adventure and willingness to live and work in a cross-cultural, rural Alaskan environment.
- A valid Alaska Type C Certificate (or the ability to obtain one).
- A degree or certificate in school counseling
- A dedication to fostering a dynamic and inclusive learning atmosphere.
