Job summary

Canterbury Children's Centre and Nursery School is seeking a part-time cleaner to join our mornings team on a 10-hour weekly contract. The role involves cleaning across teaching, communal and office areas using domestic and industrial equipment, with potential extra hours during holidays.

Start date ASAP. The post requires reliability, a commitment to child welfare, and the ability to work as part of a small staff group. DBS disclosure checks apply and safeguarding is our priority.

Qualifications

• Experience in school cleaning is desirable.
• Ability to use domestic and industrial cleaning equipment.
• Good standard of hygiene and safety awareness.

Responsibilities

• Clean floors in teaching, communal and office areas using appropriate techniques and equipment.
• Clean internal surfaces such as bathrooms, walls, windows, and work surfaces.
• Undertake other cleaning duties as needed, e.g. carpet and upholstery cleaning.
• Carry out routine equipment safety checks and storage.
• Replenish hygiene supplies like soap and toilet rolls.
• Report faults or issues affecting education activity.
• Help maintain site security and confidentiality.
• Provide opening service for the site at start of day.
• Commit to diversity and safe environment for children.
• Attend relevant training and development as required.
• Hours set in contract with possible flexibility.

10 hours/week: 5.30am - 7.30am with the opportunity for additional hours 2.30pm - 4.30pm Wednesday and Friday, and during school holidays.

Purpose of the post

Undertake a full range of cleaning duties using domestic and industrial cleaning equipment to ensure all areas of the educational setting are cleaned and maintained to a high standard.

Responsibilities

• Clean floor spaces in teaching, communal and office areas using appropriate techniques and equipment e.g. mops, sweeps, spray cleans, machine scrub, vacuum
• Clean internal surface areas e.g. bathrooms, walls, windows, work surfaces and sanitary appliances using appropriate techniques, equipment and materials e.g. dusting; damp wiping; polishing, cleaning
• Undertake other cleaning duties if/when needed e.g. carpet and upholstery valeting, stain, playdough and mark making removal, de-scaling sanitary appliances
• Undertake routine equipment safety checks, cleaning, maintenance and storage
• Replenish sanitary and hygiene supplies e.g. soap, hand towels and toilet rolls
• Report faults, damage, breakages, or any issue that may affect or impact on routine education activity
• Maintain appropriate levels of security in all working areas to ensure confidentiality, safety and maintain site security
• Provide an opening service for the site at the beginning of the day alongside a colleague
• Show a commitment to diversity, equal opportunities and anti-discriminatory practices
• Show a commitment to ensuring that children and young people learn in a safe environment
• Participate in relevant and appropriate training and development as required
• Work hours set out in contract, but some flexibility in hours may be necessary and this will be arranged with the agreement of the Headteacher.
