Job summary

Southwest Allen County Schools seeks a kitchen assistant for a 9 month, 6 hours/day role in the school lunch program. You will prepare and serve meals, ensure timely delivery while maintaining proper temps, and assist with basic kitchen tasks.

Interaction with students and staff is common; cash handling and deposit delivery are included. The position requires 1–2 years in a restaurant or cafeteria setting, baking experience, and the ability to step up as acting manager when needed.

Qualifications

• Safely operate school food service equipment in area of responsibility.
• Strong oral and interpersonal communication skills.
• Capable of working well in a team.
• 1–2 years experience in a restaurant or cafeteria setting.
• 1–2 years baking experience required.
• Previous food preparation experience is desirable.
• Ability to act as acting manager when necessary.

Responsibilities

• Serve food items within proper time and temperature limits.
• Perform necessary cleaning duties of the kitchen area.
• Prepare and serve fresh menu items for immediate serving.
• Act as back-up to the Food Service Manager.
• Interact with students and staff to describe menu items.
• Operate the cash register and deliver daily deposits with mileage reimbursement.
