Job summary

The Reserves Network is hiring a School Cafeteria Foodservice Assistant for a school site in North Carolina. The role pays $17.38 per hour, with Monday–Friday morning shifts of 4–6 hours and weekly pay. This opportunity can lead to temporary or temp-to-hire employment through the staffing partner.

You will prepare and serve nutritious meals, follow safety guidelines, keep areas clean, and assist with stocking and organization while supporting students’ healthy growth.

Responsibilities

• Follow the daily work schedule.
• Follow published menus and standardized recipes.
• Complete tasks such as food production, cleaning, dishwashing, service, stocking and paperwork as designated.
• Follow all food safety and HACCP procedures for sanitation and hygiene.
• Clean and sanitize surfaces and equipment; sweeping and mopping floors.
• Take out trash and cardboard to dumpsters.

Job Description

A school cafeteria worker prepares and serves nutritious meals to students in a clean, safe, and friendly environment. They follow food safety guidelines, maintain kitchen cleanliness, and assist with stocking and organizing supplies. This role supports the school’s mission by ensuring students receive healthy meals that fuel learning and growth.

Responsibilities

• Follow the daily work schedule
• Follow published menus and standardized recipes
• Complete assigned tasks, such as but not limited to food production, cleaning, dishwashing, service, putting up stock and paperwork as designated by school manager or assistant manager
• Follow all food safety and HACCP procedures to ensure food safety, sanitation and hygiene
• Cleaning and Sanitizing any surface areas and / or equipment, such as serving lines, tables, seats, equipment and floors
• Sweeping and mopping all floors
• Taking trash / cardboard out and placing in the designated dumpsters

Qualifications and Requirements

• Must be able to speak and comprehend the English language
• Simple math, reading skills, and recipe preparation. High School diploma or GED required
• Communications skills to communicate positively and effectively with students, staff, vendors and parents
• Complete job requirements in assigned areas. This may include but not limited to the following maintain dish room, daily record keeping, properly receiving and storing of food and supplies, fruit / vegetable preparation, salad / sandwich preparation, mainline cooking, inventory, inventory control and kitchen janitorial duties
• Manual skills for cleaning and sanitizing food preparation equipment. Mechanical skills to safely operate kitchen equipment
• Sweeping, mopping, twisting turning, reaching, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, reaching and repetitive motions
• Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds occasionally, lift up to 20 pounds frequently, lift up to 10 pounds constantly
• Frequent movement at a fast pace
• Stand up to six continuous hours
• Ability to pass pre-employment drug screen and background check
