Job summary

Wake County Public School System is seeking a Cashier Assistant for the Child Nutrition Services department. You will assist in preparing and serving meals, and operate as a cashier using a computer POS system to record sales and meal counts.

You must have a high school diploma, be ServSafe certified (or obtain within 90 days), and have experience in food service or cashier roles. The role requires accurate money handling and adherence to sanitation standards in a school cafeteria setting.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Must be ServSafe Certified or able to become ServSafe Certified within 90 days and maintain certification.
• Experience in food service and/or serving as a cashier.

Responsibilities

• Prepares, cooks and serves meals, salads and a la-carte items per recipes and keeps records.
• Acts as cashier collecting money with a POS system and records sales accurately.
• Handles money exchanges and assists in deposits.
• Participates in on-the-job training for federally reimbursable meals and serving line identification.
• Reads and follows standardized recipes for school cafeteria food prep.
• Keeps kitchen and utensils clean per sanitation codes and maintains cleanliness schedule.
• Performs housekeeping tasks (sweeping, mopping, table/chair cleaning, bathroom cleaning, serving areas).
• Follows Wake County Public School System Child Nutrition Handbook policies and procedures.
• Provides effective communication and customer service to students, parents and staff.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
