Job summary

Henry Co Public School District Bus Garage in New Castle, KY is seeking a part-time Bus Monitor to assist the driver with student loading/unloading, discipline, and safety while the bus is in operation.

Youth-focused position requires high school level education, eligibility from 16 years old, and ability to work with young children including those with special needs; incumbents will follow Kentucky rules and district procedures, with training provided.

Qualifications

• Requires a high school level education or equivalent.
• Enrollment in middle or high school for student monitors.
• Must be at least 16 years old to receive compensation.
• Pass initial physical and tuberculosis test as required by Kentucky laws.
• Annual training as required by 702 KAR 5:150 (2).

Responsibilities

• Assist school driver in maintaining discipline while bus is in operation.
• Maintain proper records and documentation.
• Assist with loading, unloading and seating of students.
• Relate to children, including those with special needs.
• Communicate effectively with students, parents and staff.
• Observe health and safety regulations and procedures.
• Assist handicapped children on and off the bus; supervise arrival/departure.
• Attend in-service meetings and training to improve skills.
• Perform assigned tasks from the Superintendent or supervisors.
• Collect and supervise return of personal items left on the bus.
• Monitor students from pickup until delivery to proper person at bus stop.
• Head count for preschool students as they enter/exit the bus.
• Follow district procedures if parent not present for delivery.
• Provide developmentally appropriate preschool safety instruction.
