Job summary

IDEA Public Schools is seeking a Bus Monitor to ride buses and help the driver ensure safe and orderly transportation for students with disabilities. The role offers hourly pay and a benefits package including dental, vision, disability, life insurance, and more.

You will lift and assist students, supervise boarding and crossing, and communicate daily with teachers and parents to support student safety on routes and at the school building.

Qualifications

• Must be able to follow verbal instructions clearly.
• Capable of operating safety and adaptive equipment.
• Work well with students who have disabilities.

Responsibilities

• Lift and assist students with disabilities on and off the bus.
• Supervise boarding, exiting, and street crossing.
• Escort students into the building and assist with directions.
• Learn each student’s medical, physical, communicative, and emotional needs.
• Monitor behavior and report disciplinary issues to administrators.
• Communicate with teachers and parents about student behavior on the bus.
• Familiarize with routes and keep the schedule updated.
• Oversee use of seat belts, harnesses or car seats.
• Follow emergency procedures and assist driver with first aid if needed.
• Operate equipment per safety procedures and follow established tasks.
• Coordinate with transportation and special education offices.
