Job summary

United Migrant Opportunity Services is seeking a Bus Monitor to ensure safe transportation and orderly operations for children. You will maintain attendance, monitor health, secure medications, and supervise loading/unloading with strict adherence to safety rules.

You will also assist the Bus Driver, provide classroom coverage when needed, and engage children with activities while coordinating with parents and staff. CDA credential within 18 months is required.

Qualifications

• Be 18 years of age.
• High School Diploma or GED (dependent on state licensing).
• CDA credential required within 18 months of hire.
• Ability to work irregular and flexible hours.
• Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred – both oral and written.
• Have dependable transportation to and from work.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a current list of children transported and daily attendance.
• Conduct daily health observations for children boarding the bus.
• Secure and document child medications for pickup and delivery.
• Ensure safety and supervision of children during transportation and loading/unloading.
• Assist Bus Driver during emergencies and maintain sanitary conditions of the vehicle.
• Provide educational activities to support school readiness and feedback to staff.
• Serve as liaison between parents and center staff regarding activities and events.
• Provide child engagement through songs, stories, and positive conversations.
• Ensure proper release of children to parent/guardian designated individuals.
• Provide short-term relief to classroom staff when needed (training required).
• Provide interpretation services in classroom, home visits, and conferences.
• Assist in staff/child ratio coverage in classrooms or kitchens as assigned.
• Assist Bus Driver/Janitor to clean and maintain building and playground.
• Transport and supervise children and parents during meetings, trips, or health visits.
• Participate in trainings for serving children with disabilities per IEP/IFSP.
• Assist in recruitment activities including children with disabilities.
• Provide support to other locations with some travel.
