Job summary

Department of War Education Activity (DOWEA) is seeking a Motor Vehicle Operator to transport students on school routes in the Camp Lejeune area. You will operate a bus with a GVWR up to 30,000 pounds, ensuring safe loading, routing, and timely arrivals.

You will perform pre-trip safety checks, assist students including those with special needs, and maintain cleanliness of the vehicle while reporting issues to the appropriate government representative.

Qualifications

• Screen Out: Ability to operate the motor vehicle without more than normal supervision.
• Demonstrates safe driving skills and ability to detect mechanical problems.
• Ability to interpret instructions related to mobile equipment operation.
• Demonstrates proper work practices; keeps things neat and in order.
• Physical effort includes reaching, bending, and moving to operate controls; assisting children with special needs.
• Works under variable conditions in traffic and weather and faces potential injuries.

Responsibilities

• Operates a passenger bus with up to 30,000 pounds GVWR and 44–72 student capacity.
• Provides safe and efficient transportation for students to and from school.
• Assists loading/unloading of children with special needs and their equipment.
• Performs daily interior cleaning and monthly exterior washing of the bus.
• Maintains trip tickets and schedules; reports issues to the designated government representative.
• Performs pre-route maintenance and safety checks on the bus.
• Records route and schedule; communicates problems promptly.
