Job summary

West Suburban YMCA is seeking a School Monitor to help keep youth safe during transportation from schools to buses and within our programs. This role supports a inclusive, welcoming culture and collaborates with staff to maintain a positive atmosphere for children.

The position emphasizes safety, attendance tracking, and strong communication with the team, while upholding DEIB values and a commitment to the well-being of all participants.

Qualifications

• Experience with children in a developmental setting preferred.
• Ability to plan, organize and implement age-appropriate activities.
• Commitment to equity-centered work and DEIB initiatives.
• Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups.
• Desire and ability to work with children.
• Track record of building relationships with children, staff, volunteers and parents.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Maintains constant communication with the WSY regarding current child list.
• Completes daily attendance list.
• Promotes safety at all times. Ensures that safety rules are announced and followed.
• Actively supports the organization’s DEIB commitments by modeling equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging in daily work. Recommend and helps implement strategies and initiatives that advance the organization’s diversity goals.
• Understands our Child Abuse Prevention Policy and ensures that it is followed.
• Develops friendly and positive relationships among children and other staff.
• Communicates regularly with other staff members and supervisor.
• Ensures safety is maintained until WSY bus arrives to pick the children up.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Previous experience working with children in a developmental setting preferred.
• Ability to plan, organize and implement age-appropriate program activities.
• Committing to support and further our equity-centered work as an organization. Actively supports all DEIB efforts.
• Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
• Previous experience with diverse populations. Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships
  with people from different backgrounds.
• Desire and ability to work with children.
• Track record of building relationships with children, staff, volunteers, and parents.

ABUSE RISK MANAGEMENT:

• Adhere to policies related to boundaries with youth.
• Attend required abuse risk management training.
• Adhere to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising youth.
• Report suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.
• Follow mandated abuse reporting requirements.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• Ability to respond to emergency situations.
• Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards
  related to the activity.
