Job summary

Ballard Community School District in Kentucky seeks a Fleet Maintenance Specialist to oversee maintenance, repair, and inspection of its school buses and district vehicles, ensuring safety standards are met and operations run smoothly.

The role includes driving student routes as needed, maintaining records, and coordinating with the Transportation Director and bus drivers to support daily transportation services.

Qualifications

• Experience with fleet maintenance and diesel/gasoline systems.
• Diagnostic, electrical and A/C skills.
• Knowledge of labor laws and regulations.
• ASE certification is desirable but not required.
• Ability to interpret technical manuals and service bulletins.
• Strong organizational, communication and problem solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Must pass background check and drug screening.

Responsibilities

• Maintain district-owned equipment and develop preventive maintenance plans.
• Determine maintenance needs for the district fleet of buses and equipment.
• Maintain safety standards per state and insurance regulations.
• Keep maintenance records and repair data up to date.
• Maintain accurate financial records for parts and maintenance expenditures.
• Maintain current inventory of supplies and equipment.
• Know and apply state and federal transportation rules and guidelines.
• Promote safety and good housekeeping for school buses.
• Demonstrate organization and professionalism in the role.
• Develop recommendations for future equipment purchases.
• Serve as a route bus driver when needed.
• Keep integrity and confidentiality in school operations.
• Abide by school board policies and applicable laws.
• Cooperate with co-workers and others in a courteous manner.
• Dress appropriately for the position and work required.
• Communicate a positive attitude toward school, students, and the community.
• Accept constructive criticism and seek improvement.
