Qualifications

• Possess a valid CDL Class B with passenger, school bus and air brakes endorsements.
• Must satisfactorily complete a required driver training course and pass a performance test.
• Employment contingent on fingerprint clearance by the Florida Care Provider Background Screening Clearinghouse.

Responsibilities

• Comply with state/local traffic laws and School Board policies for safe operation of a school bus.
• Inspect the bus to ensure safe operating condition before routing or trips.
• Ensure passenger safety, including loading and unloading.
• Instruct students in safety precautions and practices.
• Maintain student discipline and report unruly behavior to the principal.
• Keep the bus clean inside and outside at all times.
• Prepare FEFP and other required operational reports in a timely manner.
• Make recommendations to improve bus routes, stops, loading/unloading zones.
• Use effective, positive interpersonal communication skills.
• Report bus defects or needed repairs to the head mechanic/appropriate administrator.
• Complete required in-service and training programs.
• Assist in obtaining substitute drivers if required.
• Perform other tasks consistent with department goals.
