Spotsylvania County Public Schools is seeking a School Bus Driver for the 2026-2027 school year. Training is paid, and the role is hourly with an immediate start date. You will transport students safely along routes and maintain order for safe operations.

Requirements include a high school diploma or GED and a valid Virginia driver's license. Prior experience with children is preferred and a drug/alcohol screening is required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Current valid Virginia driver's license with a non-negative point balance.
• Out-of-state drivers must provide their driving record if not driving in Virginia for 5 years.
• Preferred: Basic First Aid/CPR certification.
• Preferred: Experience with children/adolescents.

Responsibilities

• Maintains discipline on the bus for safety and reports misconduct.
• Performs pre-trip safety inspections and reports issues promptly.
• Reports accidents and completes required reports per guidelines.
• Attends safety workshops and required training.

Job Description

Our Bus Drivers safely transport passengers to and from assigned stops, schools and/or school functions according to specified routes. Bus Drivers are responsible for maintaining orderly conduct during trips and facilitating a positive driver/student interaction.

Spotsylvania County Public Schools is seeking Bus Drivers to join us for the 2026-2027 School Year! Training is PAID! Join our crew and put the pedal to the metal on your career.

Essential Job Functions:

• Transports students safely between home and school, and between other locations on special occasions such as field trips and sporting events.
• Maintains discipline when students are on the bus in the best interest of safety; reports any student misconduct to principal or principal's designee.
• Performs routine safety pre-trip inspections before morning and afternoon routes and logs on pre-trip inspection forms on a daily basis; reports any mechanical problems/concerns to the bus garage promptly.
• Reports all accidents promptly, follows approved guidelines and completes required reports.
• Attends safety workshops related to transportation and complete all required training.
• Follows safety rules and regulations and proper procedures as outlined in the Bus Driver's Handbook, as well as knowledge of all state regulations pertaining to school bus safety.

Education and Experience:

Required

• High School Diploma or GED
• Current (valid, not expired) State Driver's License with a non-negative point balance
• Out-of-state applicants who have not been driving in Virginia for at least 5 years will need to provide their driving record from that state upon hire.

Preferred

• Basic First Aid/CPR certification
• Previous experience working with children and adolescents

Special Requirements:

• The employee must pass an annual physical and participate fully in the drug/alcohol screening program.
