Job Summary
This position is a 9 month employee (with summer possibilities).
Education / Experience
High School diploma or equivalent required.
Essential Job Functions
- Operate the school bus in a safe and effective manner to minimize injury, property damage, or loss of life.
- Dependable attendance is essential.
- Read and interpret documents such as safety rules and procedure manuals.
- Operate the school bus in a safe and efficient way according to all relevant legislation, policies, and procedures.
- Maintain schedules and order on the school bus.
- Follow all district transportation protocols and procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Transportation Supervisor.
- Ensure the bus is safely and securely stored.
- Work well with students, including those with special needs and mild to severe disabilities requiring physical and/or emotional support.
- Secure small children in child safety seat systems.
- Open to ongoing professional development.
- Complete First Aid & CPR training (provided by district).
Physical Demands
- Work in all weather conditions including extreme cold and heat.
- Climb up to 3 feet up to six times a day.
- Reach arms distance multiple times a day; walk up to 30 minutes per day up to 100 feet.
- Sit five hours per day on a cushioned bus seat while operating the bus.
- Hearing and speaking to exchange information; seeing to perform assigned duties; sitting for extended periods; dexterity of hands and fingers to operate bus; kneeling, bending, reaching overhead, above shoulders, horizontally to perform duties; lift heavy children in and out of restricted spaces.
Reports To
Director of Transportation.
Work Schedule
Monday - Friday (on student attendance days, 9 months): 6:30 am – 9:00 am and 2:15 pm – 4:15 pm.
Pay and Benefits
- Starting Pay: $26.79/hour; 7 hours per day guaranteed. Additional duties may include recess duty or cafeteria work to meet the guarantee.
