Job description

Applicants must possess a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and a current School Bus Driver Certificate.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

None.

SUMMARY

Responsible for operating a school bus and transporting school-aged children and other authorized personnel safely. Performs janitorial duties.

Assist in the fulfillment of the agency’s vision, “For Those We Serve,” by empowering individuals who thrive as healthy, self-sufficient and contributing members of our communities.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Ensures all passengers are properly secure.

Operate wheelchairs lift properly for loading and unloading passengers.

Ensures all wheel chair equipment is stored properly prior to movement of vehicle.

Maintains a good rapport with passengers, activity centers, staff, care providers/staff.

Attends mandatory required training and various meetings regarding safety and first aid.

Safely transport children and staff from designated pick up and drop off locations.

Transports children and staff to special events, such as field trips and other events as needed.

Conducts safety and operational inspection of assigned vehicle daily and submits daily vehicle condition report.

Responsible for maintaining a safe environment within the bus by enforcing rules of conduct and responding to emergencies.

Moves furniture and transports supplies as needed.

Operates yard maintenance equipment and hand tools as needed.

Ensures the bus can be operated safely before driving and conducts pre-trip safety inspections as required by federal and state laws to include observing visual defects and checking operating systems to include brakes, horn, lights, emergency flashers, extended stop arms, and door-opening devices.

Maintains cleanliness of vehicle to ensure safe operating condition.

Reports needed mechanical repairs when necessary.

Perform janitorial duties at Head Start sites as assigned including but not limited to sweeping, moping, dusting, vacuuming, cleaning and sanitizing. Includes using compound such as soaps, waxes, chemicals, and other supplies to maintain cleanliness.

Travels for agency business using personal/agency vehicle.

Maintains regular attendance and punctuality.

Works evenings and weekends as required.

Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

To execute this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. EDUCATION:

  • High school diploma or GED.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of six (6) months of related experience, including the safe operation of motor vehicles with a commercial A or B license with Air Brakes, Passenger (P)/ School Bus Endorsement (S).

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Possess and maintain a valid commercial A or B license with passenger/school bus endorsement required.
  • CPR and First Aid Certified.
  • Ability to use two-way radio.
  • Ability to drive-in all-weather conditions.
  • Ability to read and follow maps.

Possess basic janitorial skills and have knowledge of cleaning solutions and janitorial equipment.

Willing to work non-traditional hours and days to meet the needs of this position.

Maintain a valid California driver’s license, reliable transportation, adequate auto insurance as required by State law, and insurability by agency carrier.

Pass required drug and alcohol testing prior to employment; will be subject to continual urine and breath testing throughout employment.

Pass required background investigation including medical examination and TB clearance, acceptable criminal record statement, Department of Justice fingerprint clearance, and child abuse index clearance.

Specific vision abilities required in this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
