Job summary

Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education seeks an Assistant School Services Director - Behavior Consultation for the Missouri Schools for the Severely Disabled (MSSD). The role entails leading behavior support initiatives, conducting school visits, and guiding staff through BIPs and IEP-related activities across assigned schools in Missouri.

Qualifications

• Missouri Teaching Certificate in special education.
• Five years of successful classroom teaching experience with students at risk or behaviorally challenged.
• Strong ability to use assessment data to inform instruction and prescribe work plans for individual students.
• Experience with students with severe disabilities is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Regularly visit each school in assigned area to assist staff in defining and measuring behavior, understanding reinforcement, teaching new behavior, implementing strategies, and identifying antecedents.
• Consult with staff to design behavior intervention plans (BIPs); address classroom management, effective instruction, social skills instruction, de-escalating techniques, functional behavior assessments, and ethical issues; School-wide Positive Behavioral Support; and factors affecting effectiveness.
• Work with teachers and staff on crisis intervention, learning and collaboration issues, and development/implementation of interventions.
• Collaborate with Building Administrators to promote positive student behavior through professional development; participate in IEP conferences and staffing meetings when requested.
• Communicate effectively in oral and written forms, maintaining confidentiality of PII.
• Engage in ongoing professional development to enhance knowledge of positive student behavior support.
• Maintain CPR certification at Basic Life Support level as determined by relevant authorities.
