Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited educational institution.
  • Master’s Degree preferred from an accredited college or university.
  • Possess and maintain a proper certificate as required by the Alabama State Department of Education.
  • Must meet background clearance requirements as specified by Alabama statutes and State Board of Education regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates support for the school system and its vision, goals, and priorities.
  • Organizes and conducts language, speech, and hearing screenings in the schools, as directed.
  • Evaluates students for speech-language services through use of standardized tests.
  • Consults with principals and teachers regarding scheduling student therapy.
  • Prescribes and implements speech-language therapy for designated students.
  • Provides individual and/or group therapy for children with language, speech, or hearing disorders.
  • Participates as requested in IEP development, implementation, and meetings.
  • Provides information to teachers about student therapy progress.
  • Recommends classroom speech improvement plan.
  • Maintains required records regarding children’s progress in therapy.
  • Conveys needs of assigned student to classroom teachers
  • Meets with parents as requested.
  • Maintains confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters in the accordance with state and federal laws.
  • Demonstrated initiative in identifying opportunities for improvement in areas of responsibility.
  • Engages in professional growth and demonstrated professional ethics and effective leadership.
  • Maintains and submits required reports in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Uses effective collaboration skills to work as a team member.
  • Adheres to school system rules, administrative procedures, local Board policies , and state, federal, and local laws.
  • Reports absences and takes leave in accordance with Board policies and procedures.
  • Assumes other reasonable and equitable job-related duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.
