Job summary

Helen Keller Services for the Blind seeks a full-time School-Based Registered Nurse for our Children Learning Center in Islandia, NY. The RN will ensure the health and safety of preschoolers with special needs, administer medication, and maintain health documentation. A NYS RN license and Bachelors in Nursing are required.

You will collaborate with educators, families, and health professionals, and participate in professional development to meet diverse student health needs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Nursing required.
• Strong technical skills including MS Office, Outlook, school related applications required.
• Experience in school setting with OCFS guidance preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assess students daily for illness, injury, and health concerns with logging per NY guidance.
• Provide care including minor first aid and medication administration.
• Follow NY State guidelines to determine illness-based building access.
• Monitor students with chronic health conditions and implement individualized health care plans.
• Review medical documentation for completion and regulatory compliance in NY.
• Manage treatments and medications with written authorization.
• Maintain confidentiality of student health information per laws and regulations.
• Advise parents and school staff on appropriate health care supports when needed.
• Engage in ongoing professional development and staff trainings.
