Job summary

Strides Therapy & Educational Services is seeking a School-Based Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) to join our in-person team in Mechanicsville, MD. The role involves delivering direct therapy to students under a supervising PT, implementing treatment plans, and supporting mobility and participation in school activities.

The PTA will collaborate with teachers, families, and related service providers, maintain documentation, and participate in IEP/ MDT meetings as needed.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree from an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program.
• Current MD state PTA license issued by the Maryland Board of Physical Therapy.
• Graduation from a CAPTE-accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program.
• Pediatric or school-based experience preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct physical therapy services to students as outlined in IEPs.
• Implement treatment plans developed by supervising PT.
• Assist students with mobility, balance, strength, and gross motor skills for school participation.
• Support transfers, gait training, stairs negotiation, and safe mobility in the school setting.
• Assist with positioning, adaptive equipment, orthotics, mobility devices, and wheelchair management.
• Monitor student progress and collect data toward IEP goals.
• Maintain accurate documentation of therapy sessions and progress.
• Collaborate with teachers, families, school staff, and related service providers.
• Assist with accommodations and mobility strategies in classrooms and throughout the school environment.
• Prepare therapy materials and maintain equipment.
• Participate in IEP and MDT meetings as requested by the supervising PT.
• Maintain compliance with district policies, IDEA, HIPAA/FERPA and professional standards.

Job Title: School-Based Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA)

Strides Therapy & Educational Services is a therapist-owned, clinician-led company committed to helping students succeed while providing exceptional support to our clinicians. We are seeking a dedicated Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) to join our school-based therapy team.

Additional Details: In-person role.

Expected Hours per week: 35 hours per week

Requirements: Current Maryland Physical Therapist Assistant license issued by the Maryland Board of Physical Therapy.

Responsibilities:

Under the supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist, the PTA will:

Provide direct physical therapy services to students as outlined in Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).

Implement treatment plans developed by the supervising Physical Therapist.

Assist students in improving functional mobility, balance, strength, coordination, endurance, posture, and gross motor skills necessary for participation in the school environment.

Support students with transfers, gait training, stair negotiation, and safe mobility throughout the school setting.

Assist with positioning, adaptive equipment, orthotics, mobility devices, and wheelchair management as directed by the supervising PT.

Monitor student performance and collect objective data on progress toward IEP goals.

Maintain accurate, timely documentation of therapy sessions and student progress.

Collaborate with teachers, families, school staff, and other related service providers to support student success.

Assist with implementing accommodations and mobility strategies within classrooms and throughout the school environment.

Prepare therapy materials and maintain therapy equipment.

Participate in IEP meetings and multidisciplinary team meetings as requested by the supervising PT.

Maintain compliance with district policies, IDEA regulations, HIPAA/FERPA requirements, and professional standards.

Travel between school sites as assigned, if applicable.

Qualifications:

Associate's degree from an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program.

Current MD state PTA license (or eligibility for licensure).

Graduation from a CAPTE-accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program.

Previous pediatric or school-based experience preferred but not required.

Strong communication, organizational, and collaboration skills.

Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary educational team.
