Job summary

YES Prep in Houston, Texas seeks a Mental Health Specialist to provide counseling as a related service to students in special education and to collaborate with the behavioral support and psychological services teams. The role involves creating counseling goals, delivering direct and consultative counseling, documenting progress, and sharing updates in meetings and with families.

Must hold a Bachelor’s, a Master’s in counseling/psychology/social work, Texas licensure, 2–5 years of school

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university (THECB).
• Master’s degree in counseling, psychology, or social work.
• Valid Texas Professional Licensure in LPC/LMSW/LCSW/LMFT.

Responsibilities

• Create counseling goals and objectives for students in special education.
• Provide direct and consultative counseling to students with emotional or behavioral needs.
• Consult with parents, teachers, administrators, and staff to implement strategies.
• Document progress with session notes and records.
• Provide counseling updates in ARD meetings and reports.
• Assist with evaluating and interpreting results to determine counseling needs.
