Job summary

Jewish Family Service of San Diego seeks a Staff Attorney to lead school-based immigration services for immigrant families in San Diego K-12 schools. The role involves screenings, case management, and direct representation before USCIS, ICE, and immigration courts, with a focus on keeping families together.

You will train school staff, coordinate with paralegals, and provide trauma-informed legal services in a community setting, reporting to the Directing Attorney.

Qualifications

• J.D. and an active license to practice law in any U.S. state; California license preferred.
• One year of immigration legal experience is preferred, but entry-level considered.
• Ability to explain complex legal processes clearly to clients and staff.
• Strong organizational and research/writing skills.

Responsibilities

• Conduct legal screenings and risk assessments at school-based clinics.
• Manage a caseload including removal defense and affirmative matters before USCIS, ICE, and courts.
• Serve as first legal responder when a parent is detained; coordinate next steps.
• Present Know Your Rights and family preparedness workshops for various audiences.
• Train counselors and staff on referral pathways and maintain client confidentiality.
• Maintain accurate records and track outcomes for reporting.
