Job summary

Livonia Public Schools seeks an Autism Spectrum Disorder Coach to work directly with students, families, teachers, and resource staff to screen, assess, and intervene for students with or suspected of ADHD. The coach will help districts determine appropriate options and support within the school teams.

The role emphasizes collaboration, data-driven decision making, and developing individualized supports for ASD students across K-12, including transition planning and staff training.

Qualifications

  • Five years of experience working with students with ASD.
  • Must meet Administrative Rules Governing the Certification of MI Teachers or certification in SSW, School Psychologist, Speech Pathologist or Occupational Therapist
  • Ability to build and maintain positive, respectful relationships with students, families, and colleagues
  • Strong interpersonal, collaboration, and teamwork skills
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to use student data to inform instruction, monitor progress and provide intervention/enrichment
  • Commitment to creating an inclusive classroom environment that supports diverse learners
  • Extensive experience working with children with complex behavioral needs, including ASD
  • Expert knowledge in research based instructional strategies and ability to implement them effectively
  • Experience in training/collaborating with staff on behavioral interventions, FBA, BIP and trauma informed care.

Responsibilities

  • Champion the District's mission, vision, and commitments by placing students and their learning at the center of decisions
  • Plans for students and assists teacher to implement accommodations via school team meetings and IEPTs which develop supportive interventions for ASD
  • Consults with school teams and administrators regarding the need for special education evaluation for students suspected of having ASD
  • Provides PD to increase staff effectiveness
  • Provides, facilitates, and coordinates assistance to students, parents, and teachers
  • Is knowledgeable about and utilizes school/community resources to plan outcomes for students
  • Works with district staff to build capacity and support LRE with evidence-based practices
  • Supports staff with ASD students in K-12 in general ed, special ed and ASD programs
  • Consults with school teams, participates in staff training, and develops data systems to support independence paraprofessionals
  • Guidance with evaluations, referrals, IP support, visualization supports and environmental accommodations
