Job summary

Great Bay Kids in Exeter, NH is seeking Group Leaders for the 2026-2027 School Year to join our early childhood team and support a safe, engaging learning environment.

As a Group Leader, you will assist the Site Director, develop age-appropriate activities, and collaborate with teachers to deliver curriculum while following NH licensing rules.

Qualifications

• NH licensing rules require group leaders to be at least 17 years old and meet one of the following criteria: 600 hours of experience with school-age children; 3 college credits in child development/education/recreation; certified coach; 5 years of parenting experience; or prior qualification and employment as a group leader under NH rules.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and implement educational curriculum by developing classroom activities based on developmentally appropriate practices and early learning standards.
• Lead by example; encourage teaching team success through modeling and coaching.
• Plan individual and group age-appropriate activities to actively engage children and encourage social, cognitive and emotional growth.
• Maintain frequent communications with parents through informal discussions, progress reports, and parent-teacher conferences.
• Ensure all center policies and state regulations are met.
• Ensure a healthy classroom environment including maintaining appropriate hygiene and safety standards.
• Supervise teacher assistants and classroom volunteers to ensure activities, hygiene and safety standards are followed.
• Maintain accurate records, forms and files.
• Maintain personal professional development plan to ensure continuous quality improvement.

• Support curriculum delivery in line with Great Bay Kids’ values and NH Child Care Licensing Rules & Regulations

• Supervise teacher assistants and classroom volunteers to ensure they are following planned activities, hygiene and safety standards.
• Maintain accurate records, forms and files.
• Maintain personal professional development plan to ensure continuous quality improvement.

Requirements

According to the New Hampshire Child Care Licensing Rules: A group leader in a school-age program shall be at least 17 years of age, and have one of the following:

(1) Experience working with school-age children, totaling 600 hours;

(2) Documentation of at least 3 credits in child development, education, recreation, or other field of study focused on children, awarded by an accredited college or university;

(3) Documentation that she or he is a certified coach;

(4) Documentation of 5 years of parenting experience; or

(5) Documentation from or on file with the department that she or he was qualified and employed as a group leader in a school-age program on or before the adoption of these rules in 2022.
