Job Summary:
The Scenic Technician is responsible for supporting Theatre TCU’s Scenic Studio in constructing new scenic elements and modifying existing stock for theatre productions. The Scenic Technician will also provide support to students as needed in the completion of projects related to Theatre TCU productions and theatre coursework.
Duties & Essential Job Functions:
- Works closely with the Scenic Studio to construct, modify, and install scenic elements.
- Supervises and assists students with scenic fabrication.
- Maintains a safe environment - monitors students for safe use of Scenic Studio and classroom saws, drills, routers, and other fabrication tools.
- Keeps track of supplies and conveys any needs to the Scenic Studio Manager.
- Assists in duties for daily set-up and clean-up of the Scenic Studio, theatres, and classroom spaces.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Education & Experience:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Experience working with students in an educational setting.
- Proficient in the use of various saws, drills, router, and hand tools.
Preferred Education & Experience:
- 2 years’ experience as a carpenter or fabricator.
- Experience in theatre performance or theatre technology.
Required Licensure/Certification/Specialized Training:
Preferred Licensure, Certification, and/or Specialized Training:
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Knowledge of theatrical scenic construction, including but not limited to assembly, cutting, accurate measuring, and theatrical rigging.
- Skill in scenic design interpretation and execution, with both professional and student designers.

- Visual acuity to read information from computer screens, forms and other printed materials and information.
- Able to speak (enunciate) clearly in conversation and general communication.
- Hearing ability for verbal communication/conversation/responses via telephone, telephone systems, and face-to-face interactions.
- Manual dexterity for typing, writing, standing and reaching, flexibility, body movement for bending, crouching, walking, kneeling and prolonged sitting.
- Lifting and moving objects and equipment up to 35 lbs.
Work Environment:
- Work is indoors and sedentary and is subject to schedule changes and/or variable work hours.
- This role is an on and off campus, in-person position.
- There are no harmful environmental conditions present for this job.
- The noise level in this work environment is usually moderate.
