Job summary

Utah Valley University seeks a Scenic Shop Lab Manager in the Theatre Department to supervise student work in the scenic shop and facilitate projects in support of productions. The role mentors students, oversees tool safety, and coordinates with the Technical Director and staff to align with timelines and instructional goals.

The Lab Manager provides hands‑on instruction in scenic construction, maintains an organized shop, reinforces safety and craftsmanship, and reports to the Department Chair

Qualifications

• Two years of experience as a Theatre Technician or working in a theatrical scenic shop.
• Bachelor's degree in Theatre or a related field is preferred.
• Teaching, training, or instructional experience is preferred.
• Ability to work in a shop environment and lift/stand as required.

Responsibilities

• Oversee and facilitate student work in the scenic shop lab while enforcing safe practices.
• Provide hands‑on instruction in building, painting, and rigging for student learning.
• Maintain attendance records, gradebooks, and assist with grading each semester.
• Collaborate with the Technical Director and production staff to align work with timelines.
• Keep the shop clean, professional, and structured with high craftsmanship standards.
• Perform other job‑related duties as needed.
