Job summary

GFL Environmental is seeking a Scale Operator to weigh in/out trucks at the landfill or transfer station and provide accurate information for billing. The role supports operations, ensures compliance, and communicates with management and customers daily.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 1–3 months related experience and/or training preferred.

Responsibilities

• Weigh in and out all trucks that enter the landfill or transfer station.
• Set up new trucks and issue truck permits.
• Provide accurate and efficient information for customer billing, including reports to customers and management.
• Verify accuracy of hauls and disposal for payment of third-party truck hauling.
• Dispatch proper disposal instructions for special waste with operators and the Operations Manager.
• Keep landfill management informed about community information related to the landfill.
• Test the scales daily for accuracy.
• Ensure accurate waste disposal in proper areas (grid reports).
• Be responsible for various environmental compliance tasks.

Key Responsibilities:

• Weigh in and out all trucks that enter the landfill or transfer station.

Requirements:

• High School Diploma or general education degree (GED).
• One to three months related experience and/or training.
• Experience with customer service preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
• Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Physical/Mental Demands:

• Ability to sit, stand, walk, use hands and fingers, reach, talk, and hear.
• Visual Requirements: include close vision and distance vision.
• Possess ability to occasionally lift/move up to 10 pounds.

Working Conditions:

• Frequently exposed to outside weather conditions.
• Frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes and airborne particles.
• Noise level is moderate to loud.
