Job summary

Kanawha Scales & Systems LLC, through its MTA Weighing Group division, seeks a Scale Service Technician with CDL for Youngstown, OH. Responsible for installation, calibration, maintenance, and repair of industrial scales, ensuring accuracy, safety, and customer satisfaction.

The role requires hands-on experience with load cells and displays, strong troubleshooting, and good communication with clients. Evening/outdoor work and travel to facilities are typical.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical training preferred.
  • 2-3 years of relevant industry experience preferred.
  • Experience with scale installation, calibration, and repair is expected.
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001, NIST Handbook 44 is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Install industrial, laboratory, and commercial scales per manufacturer specs.
  • Perform calibration procedures and adjust settings for precision.
  • Maintain and repair scales to minimize downtime.
  • Inspect scales for wear and functionality; address load cells and displays issues.
  • Document service and calibration records including certificates.
  • Communicate with clients regarding service requirements and estimates.
  • Follow safety protocols when working with heavy equipment and electrical components.
  • Ensure serviced scales meet quality and regulatory standards.
  • Track tools, parts, and equipment; replenish supplies as needed.
  • Stay updated on industry best practices and scale technology.

We are seeking a skilled Scale Service Technician w/CDL for our Youngstown, OH Team to ensure the accurate and reliable operation of a variety of scales used in industrial and commercial settings. This role involves installation, maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting to guarantee precise measurements, compliance with industry standards, and customer satisfaction.

Requirements

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Scale Installation: Properly install and set up industrial, laboratory, and commercial scales according to manufacturer specifications.
  • Calibration: Perform calibration procedures and adjust settings to meet precision requirements.
  • Maintenance and Repair: Conduct routine maintenance, diagnose issues, and repair scales promptly to minimize downtime.
  • Inspection: Inspect scales for wear, damage, and functionality; address issues with load cells, displays, and other components.
  • Documentation: Maintain detailed service and calibration records, including certificates and service reports.
  • Customer Interaction: Communicate professionally with clients regarding service requirements, estimates, and technical questions.
  • Safety Compliance: Follow safety protocols when working with heavy equipment and electrical components.
  • Quality Assurance: Ensure all serviced scales meet quality and regulatory standards.
  • Inventory Management: Track tools, parts, and equipment; replenish supplies as needed.
  • Training: Stay updated on industry best practices and scale technology advancements.
Skills and Knowledge
  • Experience in scale installation, calibration, and repair.
  • Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic abilities.
  • Knowledge of industry standards (e.g., ISO 9001, NIST Handbook 44).
  • Proficiency with calibration and measurement equipment.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in varied conditions.
  • Valid driver’s license; Class B (or A) CDL a plus.
  • AC/DC, MIG Welding experience is a plus.
Education & Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical/vocational training preferred.
  • 2-3 years of relevant industry experience preferred.

The nature of the industrial weighing business is 24/7/365, and the Scale Service Technician must be prepared to support operations as needed. Special working conditions include:
