Job summary

Sentinel Peak Resources seeks a SCADA Technician to troubleshoot instrumentation, SCADA systems, PLCs, HMIs, and related networks. You will support the safe, reliable operation of control and data systems, maintain accurate technical documentation, assist with system start-ups and projects, and collaborate across departments to address operational needs and identify improvement opportunities.

This role requires reading schematics and data sheets, and hands-on experience with Allen-Bradley PLCs.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience with PLC programming including Allen-Bradley ControlLogix, CompactLogix, or FlexLogix, or comparable industrial control platforms.
  • Experience installing, inspecting, calibrating, testing, maintaining, or troubleshooting industrial instrumentation or control-system equipment.
  • Experience documenting technical work, which may include maintenance records, calibration records, MOCs, SOPs, loop checks, redlined drawings, or as-built documentation.

  • Installs, inspects, calibrates, tests, maintains, and repairs control systems, and associated equipment in accordance with applicable specifications, tolerances, procedures, and safety requirements.
  • Performs loop checks and functional testing to verify proper operation and communication between field devices, control systems, and operator interfaces; identifies and corrects deficiencies.
  • Monitors, evaluates, and troubleshoots process control systems, PLC programming, HMIs, instrumentation, communication infrastructure, and related production and safety equipment.
  • Reviews and interprets technical documentation, including P&IDs, schematics, loop drawings, data sheets, calibration records, procedures, and mechanical and electrical drawings.
  • Supports system start-ups and commissioning activities by verifying system readiness, coordinating with involved personnel, and identifying and resolving control-system issues.

Overview Of Position

Under general supervision, the SCADA Technician troubleshoots instrumentation, SCADA systems, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), human-machine interfaces (HMIs), communication infrastructure, and associated control-system equipment. This position supports the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of control and data systems; maintains accurate technical documentation; assists with system start-ups and projects; and works collaboratively across departments to address operational needs and identify improvement opportunities.

Position Levels
  • SCADA Technician: Journeyman-level; performs installation, calibration, testing, maintenance, programming, and troubleshooting of SCADA and control systems under general supervision.
  • SCADA Technician Sr.: Senior-level; independently performs complex programming, system configuration, diagnostics, and advanced troubleshooting under general direction. May lead individual projects, provide technical guidance, and mentor SCADA Technicians.
  • Lead SCADA Technician: Lead-level; provides day-to-day technical leadership and coordinates SCADA activities, priorities, projects, and resources. Serves as a technical subject-matter expert and promotes consistent standards and practices, and mentors SCADA Technicians and SCADA Technicians Sr.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Installs, inspects, calibrates, tests, maintains, and repairs control systems, and associated equipment in accordance with applicable specifications, tolerances, procedures, and safety requirements.
  • Performs loop checks and functional testing to verify proper operation and communication between field devices, control systems, and operator interfaces; identifies and corrects deficiencies.
  • Monitors, evaluates, and troubleshoots process control systems, PLC programming, HMIs, instrumentation, communication infrastructure, and related production and safety equipment.
  • Reviews and interprets technical documentation, including P&IDs[ME2] , schematics, loop drawings, data sheets, calibration records, procedures, and mechanical and electrical drawings.
  • Supports system start-ups and commissioning activities by verifying system readiness, coordinating with involved personnel, and identifying and resolving control-system issues.
  • Assesses system condition and performance through documentation review, inspection, testing, and analysis; performs or coordinates required maintenance and repairs.
  • Maintains and supports reliable control and data-system infrastructure to ensure operational information is consistently available to applicable teams.
  • Provides operational teams with accurate system data and technical support to enable informed, fact-based decisions.
  • Participates in planning and coordinating control-system projects, including required personnel, materials, documentation, and other resources.
  • Coordinates with employees, contractors, and other personnel performing control-system work by providing technical assistance, sharing job-related information, and helping align work with applicable procedures and requirements.
  • Maintains accurate and complete calibration records, loop checks, maintenance records, standards, procedures, and other required documentation.
  • Reviews and updates control-system standards, drawings, and technical documentation to reflect current and as-built conditions.
  • Performs work in compliance with applicable company policies, site procedures, codes, standards, regulations, cybersecurity requirements, and change-management/Management of Change (MOC) processes.
  • Performs all other job-related duties as assigned.
Requirements
Education and Experience
Required
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience with PLC programming, including Allen-Bradley ControlLogix, CompactLogix, or FlexLogix, or comparable industrial control platforms.
  • Experience installing, inspecting, calibrating, testing, maintaining, or troubleshooting industrial instrumentation or control-system equipment.
  • Experience documenting technical work, which may include maintenance records, calibration records, MOCs, SOPs, loop checks, redlined drawings, or as-built documentation.
Desired
  • HMI development experience.
  • Experience with AVEVA System Platform, InTouch, or OMI[ME1] .
  • Instrumentation installation, calibration, testing, maintenance, and troubleshooting experience.
Required
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to travel regularly to field and operational sites and perform work safely in office, field, and outdoor environments.
  • Valid California driver’s license with a driving record deemed acceptable by the company’s auto insurance carrier is required due to regular travel to field and operational sites.
  • Ability to follow applicable safety procedures, cybersecurity requirements, change-management processes, and site-specific work requirements.
  • Ability to read and understand schematics, P&IDs, and pneumatic, electrical, and mechanical equipment engineering drawings.
  • Working knowledge of electrical principles and safe work practices applicable to instrumentation, control systems, field devices, and related equipment.
  • Working knowledge of industrial networking concepts applicable to SCADA systems, PLCs, HMIs, communication infrastructure, and field-device connectivity.
  • Ability to follow established processes and understand how those processes affect the overall business.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to collaborate with employees, contractors, and other personnel to share job-related information, provide technical assistance, and support work performed in accordance with applicable procedures and requirements.

Environment & Physical Demands

Work is conducted both indoors within a professional office setting and in outdoor environments.

Indoors, the temperature and humidity are generally controlled, but conditions can fluctuate. Duties will require repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers; visual acuity for reading computer screens and/or preparing data; communicating with others to exchange information. The noise level in the work environment is typically moderate, with standard office conversations and equipment in use. Light to moderate lifting (up to 20 pounds) of office supplies may be required occasionally. Position may require infrequent trips to field locations where they may be exposed to a range of environmental conditions.

Outdoors, the incumbent is exposed to a wide range of weather conditions, including extreme temperatures (both heat and cold), wetness, and humidity. The essential functions of this position include adjusting/moving in all directions; sitting, standing, walking, walking on uneven surfaces, bending, kneeling, stooping; inspecting objects; operating a motor vehicle; working near moving mechanical parts, tight spaces, and on high and precarious surfaces; and/or communicating with others to exchange information. Exposure to environmental elements such as dirt, dust, fumes, odors, and loud noises should be expected. Appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for all tasks is required. Incumbents must adhere to all safety protocols, especially those concerning heat illness prevention (access to water and shade).
